Most individuals understand the benefit of exercising for both their mind and body. However, not many people went through with it due to their schedules or other kinds of justifications. Alas, how does mindfulness help to build healthy behavior and to improve their quality of life?
In this new episode of Doing Well: Wellbeing Science Insights Podcast, Our host, Lu Ngo, talks to Eric Loucks, a professor, researcher, and pioneer in the study of mindfulness and health. As director of the Mindfulness Center at Brown University, Loucks teaches mindfulness-based programs and leads high-quality, methodologically rigorous research to investigate the science behind mindfulness and its impact on health and well-being.
An expert in aging-related research, he optimizes mindfulness programs for specific age groups. He is the lead developer of Mindfulness-Based College (MBC) and Mindfulness-Based Blood Pressure Reduction (MB-BP) and has received numerous research grants from the National Institutes of Health to evaluate the effectiveness of mindfulness-based interventions, including MBC, MB-BP, and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR).
Dr. Loucks’ book entitled “The Mindful College Student” (New Harbinger Publications) was released in April 2022. Throughout his career, he has held teaching positions at Harvard, McGill, and Brown Universities. Loucks has practiced mindfulness for about 25 years.
The conversation starts by getting to know Dr. Loucks through his favorite book, then deep diving into the importance of taking care of your well-being through exercise. He explains how mindfulness-based interventions help with physical health and health-related behaviors and also the relationship between engaging in active nature-based outdoor recreation and mindfulness.

Most individuals tend to distract themselves due to the notion that being vulnerable is associated with weakness. Every single day individuals deal with different emotions related to their workplace. Most of the time, we get overwhelmed by our own emotions. This often occurs and eventually leads to counter-productivity, affecting our concentration and ability to achieve our goals. Instead, we need to find a prolific pathway to understanding our emotions and finding ways to overcome the overwhelming feeling that takes effect. Through this, we will be led to adapt emotional regulation and then move toward our goals.
In this episode of Doing Well: Wellbeing Science Insights Podcast, host Lu Ngo is joined by Adam Rosenweig. Through his current journey as an emotional intelligence certified specialist, trainer, coach, and consultant and his experience in professional development, Adam conveys an adventurous route to emotional intelligence and how it can be regulated to become the personal benefit for any individual. Emotional intelligence (EI) is a set of emotional and social skills that influences how an individual perceives and expresses themselves, develops and maintains social relationships, copes with challenges, and uses emotional information effectively and meaningfully. How do individuals do that when people surrounding them tend to do the opposite?
The conversation starts by getting to know Adam through his favorite book. Adam also shares with the listeners his history as a blue-collar in construction and all others unrelated to EI experience, which brought him to focus on the emotional intelligence industry.
