Most of the time, we are subconsciously disconnected from nature. Those times happen to us more than we can notice; when they happen, we often drift farther away from the beauty nature presents. This creates deeper issues, lengthening the road to finding our true selves. Instead, in life, we need to find balance and heal ourselves holistically. We need to have silent moments with ourselves in nature to voice out the grandeur and splendor of our souls. Through this, we will be led to our true selves.
When we dive into it, nature-based therapy is a practice for individuals to find their authentic selves in an inauthentic world. All individuals should go back to their roots, our ancestors. All of this is to connect with nature and ourselves. How do we do that when the society around us is physically, spiritually, emotionally, and mentally unwell?
On this Doing Well: Wellbeing Science Inside Podcast episode, host Lu Ngo is joined by Kit Kline. Kit delivers a calm approach to nature-based therapy, hopefully inspiring the listeners to do the same and find their inner balance. Kit has 17 years of experience working as a Counsellor and Educator in the social and community services sector with both public and private health services, specializing in mental health and addictions.
The conversation starts by getting to know Kit through her favorite book. She also shares with the listeners her experience as a counselor and educator, which brought her to impactful work. Going to the heart of the discussion, we learn how this nature-based therapy can help us reconnect with our surroundings and, more importantly, ourselves.

There are times when an individual suppresses and denies feeling. Even more, individuals can become judgemental and give themselves harsh critics, which we call self-critical. But instead, in life, we need to understand that for us to thrive as humans, we need to be kind to ourselves, and that's what we call self-compassion. When we deep dive into it, self-compassion is a practice for individuals to accept and permit themselves to feel, fail, fall, and forgive. All of which is to help ourselves to grow and move forward in life. How do we do that when it is easier to avoid and suppress ourselves to practice self-compassion?
On this episode of Doing Well: Wellbeing Science Inside Podcast, host Lu Ngo is joined by Marc Brackett. He's writing his next book after his best-selling book on "Permission To Feel". Marc's energy is super calming in a way that influences the listeners to calmly accept and permit themselves to feel and embrace all of the imperfections in our lives as individuals. The conversation started by getting to know Marc through his favorite book. He also shares with the listeners his ongoing projects that will be launched soon, then goes to the meat of the discussion on how this self-compassion can help us thrive and maintain our wellbeing.
